Xinxinjiang cotton, why is it good!
What is Xinjiang cotton?
As the world's largest cotton consumer and the second largest cotton producer, China's cotton output in 2020 / 2021 is about 5.95 million tons, the total demand is about 7.8 million tons, and the annual gap is about 1.85 million tons. Among them, Xinjiang's cotton output is 5.2 million tons, accounting for about 87% of domestic output and 67% of domestic consumption.
Xinjiang long staple cotton growing in the special geographical and climatic environment has the world's top quality. It is warm, breathable and comfortable to make quilts, and the supply has been in short supply for many years. In order to meet the domestic demand, China needs to import about 2 million tons of cotton every year. In recent years, China has actively expanded import channels to ensure the stability of domestic cotton supply chain. China has also established a cotton reserve system to ensure the safety of cotton farmers.
Climate determines that Xinjiang cotton is good
As the largest high-quality cotton producing area in China, the high-quality and High-yield Cotton in Xinjiang is closely related to the local climate conditions.
Li Xinjian, deputy director of agricultural meteorological station of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, pointed out: cotton is a kind of economic crop which likes temperature and light and has unlimited growth habit. Compared with other cotton areas in China, Xinjiang has many favorable meteorological conditions.
1. The results showed that dry air, less cloud, more sunny days and sufficient sunshine were beneficial to the growth of cotton fiber and the decrease of Boll Rot rate.
2. Large daily range and high economic coefficient of cotton are conducive to the accumulation of dry matter and the formation of economic yield of cotton.
3. Light and heat resources are rich and diverse, which is conducive to the development of various types of cotton production.
4. the total water resources are relatively stable, with a small annual variation. The water and heat in the growing season are the same season, which has a high guarantee for the water demand of cotton planted in oasis irrigation agricultural area.
Xinxinjiang cotton can not be separated from meteorological service
By the end of the cotton production season in 2020, Xinjiang's total cotton output, yield per unit area, planting area and commodity allocation have ranked first in China for 26 consecutive years.
Li Xinjian, who has been engaged in cotton meteorological service for 33 years, was not surprised by this "report card": in addition to the unique natural conditions, it can not be separated from the careful care of meteorologists.
In the 1990s, Xinjiang meteorological department launched the "155" project, established the cotton meteorological service system, formed the monitoring network covering the main cotton producing areas, and carried out the corresponding yield forecast. In 2019, China Meteorological Administration and the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas jointly established the cotton Meteorological Service Center (relying on Xinjiang Agricultural Meteorological Station).
On the basis of the 3 day forecast service provided in key farming hours, the cotton meteorological service center first launched the cotton boll opening period prediction in the main cotton region in 2020, helping the production department deploy manpower and material resources ahead of time, and organize harvesting in time. Relevant forecast service products are known as "a good helper for cotton farmers to increase production and income".
